In May 2000, Lauren and his father participated in the One Lap of America race. Beginning in Grand Haven, MI, the rally/race was to take 6 days/nights through several states with track races at various points along the way. Most of the driving was during nights. Unfortunately, the car broke down on the third day. Lauren and Fred had to rent a trailer and bring the car home to make repairs. They returned to the race when disaster struck the second time. A fire started in the floorboard. Although Lauren was burned on his leg, the burn was not serious - but they were out of the race. There is always next year!

Laurie seemed to go against Republican family tradition because of her activism in the teacher union movement. She held local, state and national positions, including President of Bloomfield Hills Education Association. Laurie left teaching after more than 30 years to take a temporary position as Uniserv Director for the Michigan Education Association in the Madison Heights office. Unfortunately the position only lasted for 9 months. She took another temp position with the MEA in Allen Park which lasted two months. Finally, her retirement became a reality. She has substitute taught in Berkley School District and Clawson School District - but is happy to be once again back with Bloomfield Hills School District - even if it is only as a substitute teacher.

She was very involved with the MSU Alumni Club of Oakland County, being past editor of the quarterly newsletter and chairing social and fund-raising functions, including the annual Scholarship Auction. She volunteered in 1996, 1997, and 1998 for the annual "Woodward Dream Cruise," reminiscent of the 1950's and ླྀ's. Laurie and Ed were volunteers for the 2000 WDC. She organized family photographs as well as worked on the family tree. She is a former member of Oakland County Genealogy Society, former treasurer of Detroit Society for Genealogy Research, and a member of Magoffin County (KY) Historical Society where most of her research has been. She also belongs to the Royal Oak Woman's Club, is a former member of the Royal Oak Garden Club and the Greater Detroit Hosta Society. She is still trying to keep some plants alive!!

Sunday, 12 Aug 2001 was the afterglow at Lucia's father's cottage near Brooklyn, MI, in the Irish Hills. Whew! The bride and groom were smiling throughout all the days' and evenings' activities, finally departing for their week long honeymoon on Santa Lucia Island on Monday, 13 Aug 2001.

The immediate cause of death was hypotensive shock due to acute complete heart block and acute myocardial infarction. Another significant condition contributing to Rosina's death but not related to the cause was Ischemic Cardiomyopathy and unstable angina. An operation to correct angioplasty of the left anterior descending coronary artery was performed on 1 December 1995. Rosina and Helena Scarpace were visiting with George and Rose Spatola when Rosina was taken ill and rushed to the hospital, where she died.

Sal spotted Dorothy, asked her to dance, she refused. He asked her later, she refused again. He finally asked her why she was there. She said: not to dance with him! Eventually the evening came to an end. Sal offered to drive Dorothy and her friend home - they lived in a boarding house for women - no men allowed inside. My father was Filippo Sansone, b. 1884. Immigrated to the US in 1899 with his brother Francesco. Their father was Giovanni b. May 1853 who married Pietra D'Amore, born in 1856. Her parents were Fancesco D'Amore b. abt 1818 and Margarita Corso b. 1829. Giovanni's father was Filippo b. abt 1813. His wife was Giuseppa Cianciolo b. abt 1813. Her mother was Lucia Scarpace b. abt 1793.

It is known that both my grandfather Giovanni, and my great grandfather Filippo had several brothers, but have not been able to identify but one, a brother of my great grandfather Filippo who was named Antonio. Antonio also had a son who he also named Giovanni who was born the same year as my grandfather, Giovanni, 1853.

This indicates, that in accordance with Sicilian custom that the first born son be named after his grandfather, that the name of my great great grandfather's (Filippo-1813) father was Giovanni. Confused?
