Death: Obituary
Troy T. Conley, 69, a well-known Lorain businessman, died at Elyria Memorial Hospital yesterday. He was a patient at Altercare Nursing Home in North Ridgeville for the past three weeks and had been ill for the past 20 years. He was born in Portsmouth and came to Lorain from there in 1946. During World War II, Conley served with the Navy as a fireman first class aboard the USS Gold Star in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and participated in the liberation of the Phillipines. After the war, he worked for seven years in the No. 4 Seamless Mill of Lorain Works, U. S. Steel. In the early 1950s, he established the Troy Conley Cleaning Service which soon developed into a full-time enterprise in the Lorain area. He continued to operate the business until health problems compelled him to retire in the early 1970s. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and was formerly active in the Central Lorain Businessmens Association. Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Eula (nee Kinney); sons, Gary and Everett of Sheffield Lake; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Koltas of Sheffield Village; five grandchildren; a brother, William of Newark, Ohio; sisters, Mrs. Mae Englebrecht of Portsmouth, Mrs. Esther Gregorac of Euclid, Mrs. Ethel Hayslip of Lorain, and Mrs. Robert (Garnet) Allen of Portsmouth. The family will receive friends tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the John R. Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Linwood H. Chamberlain, Jr., pastor of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lorain, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. [NB: Troy T. Conley was my uncle.]
