Marilyn Jean Munn, 3224 Holt St., Ashland, KY 41101 is the dau of Carl Mise Rowland b. 1900 and he was the son of James Armstrong Rowland b. ca. 1889 and Mary Bell Patrick. Mary was the dau of John Wesley Patrick b. ca. 1836 who married in 1858 to Abigail Salyer. She was born in 1837 to Jacob Salyer b. 1798 and Newcarious Rowland b. 1808. Newcarious's mother was Elizabeth Rowland Litteral who married John Litteral. According to her death record her father was Mike Rowland. James Armstrong was the son of Joseph Lloyd Rowland b. 1835 who m. in 1866 to Nancy Elizabeth Prater b. ca. 1849. I haven't figured out who her parents are. Mary B. was the dau of John Wesley Patrick b. 1836 and Abigail Salyer b. 1837. Abigail was the dau of Jacob Salyer b. 1798 and Newcarious Rowland b. 1808 Lee Co. VA. Newcarious was the dau of Elizabeth Rowland who later married a James Litteral. James was the son of Joseph Lloyd Rowland b. 1835 and Nancy Elizabeth Prater b. 1849. Who was Nancy? Joseph was the son of Armstrong Rowland b. 1815 VA. Was he a brother to Newcarious? The answer may be found in early Lee Co. VA records. Ashland T. Patrick was born in Magoffin County, Ky., June 2, 1859, a son of John W. and Abigail (Salyer) Patrick, natives respectively, of Magoffin and Johnson Counties, Ky. The paternal grandfather, John Patrick, a native of Virginia, came to Kentucky about 1800 and settled in Magoffin County, where he engaged in farming; his wife was Martha (Kanard) Patrick, of Kentucky. The maternal grandfather of Ashland T. Patrick was Jacob Salyer, also a native of Virginia, but who settled in Johnson County, Ky., was a farmer, and his wife was Newcarius (Litteral) Salyer, of Kentucky. Ashland T. Patrick received his education at Georgetown College, Ky., and at the Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio. He studied law under Judge John E. Cooper, of West Liberty, Ky., and began practice in 1883; two years later he was elected county superintendent of schools, which position he resigned in April, 1886, and was appointed United States commissioner. In 1881 he married Lulie Howes, a daughter of W.W. and Mary (Ferguson) Howes, of Kentucky. They have two children, Lenore and Hortense. Mr. Patrick is a member of the Presbyterian Church, is a Mason, and a Republican.
