Occupation: Mack Allen was the father of a large family which he moved to Starke County IN from Kentucky when Ollie was two months old. The move occurred because of the violence in the area at the time. The family moved north by train. Mack became a well-known minister in the Knox area. The 1900 U.S. Census lists his year of birth as 1894.(Thomas D. Allen, 1997)

Birth: When Joe was a young boy, he was jumping from the hay loft into a pile of straw. A pitchfork was hidden in the straw when he jumped. The tines of the fork pierced Joe's head. His family sawed the handle off the pitchfork and took Joe to the doctor. The doctor removed the fork and Joe recovered completely.

Occupation: Ollie worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps before WW II. During the war he saw action in the South Pacific (Borneo, New Guinea, Philippines). He and Gwendolyn eloped before he left for the war. After the war Ollie worked at Kingsbury and then Allis Chalmers in La Porte for 33 years. He and his brothers were good carpenters and built several homes in the Knox, IN area, including his own in 1954. He also farmed part-time. He met his wife at Bass Lake Crystal Palace.
Gwendolyn Mary WHITE:

Gwendolyn Mary WHITE is the sole survivor in her family-- her brothers, sisters, and parents all have passed on. Her father called her "Dolly" because he said she looked like a doll when she was a baby. She inherited her Grandmother PODELL's West Prussian work ethic and keeps busy gardening, housekeeping, refinishing furniture, and managing the farm. Like her grandmother, Gwen enjoys picking berries, canning vegetables and giving them away. --Thomas Dale Allen, her son, 1997.
