Death: "On last Sunday afternoon at his home, seven miles north of Georgetown, Mr. Fielding N. Salyer, an old and highly respected citizen of Williamson County, passed away. Mr. Salyer had been in ill health for some time, but had been up attending to business until about two weeks ago when he took his bed and steadily grew worse, despite all that loving hands and skilled physicians could do for him, until Sunday afternoon when he passed peacefully away and his tired body fell asleep in death. "Fielding N. Salyer was 83 years and four months of age, being born in Floyd County, Kentucky, February 18, 1829. He moved to Arkansas in 1852; was married to Miss Rhoda Patrick, who preceded him to the grave by about one year. From there he moved his family to Texas in 1862 and settled on the old home place where he lived continuously until his death. A short time after moving to Williamson County, the war of the rebellion broke out and Mr. Salyer left his young wife and family and joined the Confederate Army under Capt. Strayhorn, and served with valor during all the years of that hard and bloody conflict in Gurley's regiment and Gann's brigade, fighting his first battle at Fort Smith, Arkansas. After the war was over, he with many others of our old citizens, returned and worked and waited bravely through the dark and cruel days of reconstruction for the smile of prosperity to return to the desolate land. How well he discharged these duties to his country and to his family is well known, he having at all time stood out bravely and with fidelity for the things that were right and for the best interests of the common country. During the fifty years Mr. Salyer lived in Williamson County he accumulated quite a good deal of this world's goods, but he leaves to his children, grandchildren and friends an heritage more precious than the wealth of this world-the record of a life well spent and a duty well done...."
