In a note from Margaret Caito Kennedy (b. 1920) to her son, Tom Kennedy:
Hi Tom,
Aunt Jo would have loved that explanation of the name Gentile. It would have confirmed all that she believed. You could have had a great go around with her. She said when grandpa Caito (Thomas Salvatore Caito) came to this country, he did not come "cattle class" but had a cabin; and when great-grandpa Rocco came (Antonio Rocco), he came through New Orleans, and traveled up the Mississippi to Cincinnati where he had relatives and then on to Cleveland. Their son was the first Italian boy to be born in Cleveland, according to Aunt Jo. When Ed and I were researching at the Archives, the Rocco we thought was grandma Caito's father, I beleive was traveling first class. One additional thing, Aunt Jo always said that the Gentile's were from France.
Love,
Mom
