Marriage: Sal and Dorothy met at the Greystone Ballroom on Thanksgiving Day during a leave from the service. His brother Bill and he went there in the evening. Sal spotted Dorothy, asked her to dance, she refused. He asked her later, she refused again. He finally asked her why she was there. She said: not to dance with him! Eventually the evening came to an end. Sal offered to drive Dorothy and her friend home - they lived in a boarding house for women - no men allowed inside. The girls had an 11:00 curfew - although the rules were bent once in a while. In spite of her refusal to dance that Thanksgiving evening, Sal persevered and they dated, and eventually they were married.
