I'm just saving Connie Wireman's response to a deed I posted at Magoffin Co Deeds site until I can figure out where it fits in the database:
Posted by Connie Wireman on Thu, 14 Sep 2000, in response to Deed from John H Howard & Susanna Howard to Samuel Howard, posted by Laurie McKenzie on Sun, 23 Apr 2000
I believe this John H. Howard is the one we descendants commonly refer to as John E. Howard although his tombstone on the Howard Fork of Licking in Magoffin Co. KY has his name as John H. Howard. John H. Howard was b. in 1829 Floyd Co. KY, the son of John Howard and Nancy Cameron. He married Susannah Shepherd b. 1832, dau of Jacob Shepherd and Elizabeth Hale. We believe she is buried on the same cemetery as her husband but there is no marked gravesite. The Samuel Howard mentioned in the deed is probably one of their 14 children.

Mary Greer:
Born ABT 18554
Another letter from Judy -?- (I misplaced the envelope), asked for help on identifying Samuel Howard's 2nd wife Mary Calloway. Mary was born in North Carolina. Judy thinks Mary's first husband was a Calloway and that she was a Greer before her marriage to the unknown Calloway. Judy's great grandmother was Laura Calloway b. ca. 1860. Her grandfather's death certificate says his mother is Laura Greer but the marriage certificate for Laura and William Marsillett in 1881 Floyd Co. KY gives her name as Laura Calloway.
Samuel Howard first married Delaney Jones. The 1880 Magoffin census lists Samuel Howard at age 68, wife Mary (Greer or Calloway) age 40, with Joseph age 4 (a son of Sam Howard and Jane Stone), Ida age 4, and a child not named age 1.
The 1870 Floyd census lists James Greer, age 59, b. NC, Eliza (McGuire) age 62, b. NC, Mary Conway (Calloway?), age 25, b. NC, Jane age 12, Luana (Laura?) age 9, and James E. age 6. Laura married William Marsillett in 1881 according to the 1900 Floyd County KY census on page 59.
The 1880 Floyd census has James Greer, Sr. age 69, Eliza age 72, and a grandson James Greer, Jr. age 17.
I think Mary was a Greer who married a Calloway, but who was this Calloway?

Our Magoffin Marriage book lists J. T. Conley m. 10 Mar 1898 to Ida Howard at S. C. Allen’s home with witnesses G. B. Salyer and Joseph Howard by S. C. Allen, minister. Our Howard’s of Eastern Kentucky book states Samuel Howard m. 2nd to Mary Greer and their 1st child was Ida Howard b. ca. 1876. Ida m. 10 Mar 1898 to John T. Conley b.
