9 Aug 1999: (per Paul J Caito, Rochester, NY) When talking to Gloria Scarpace Caito, in Burbank, CA, she thought that her grandmother was Vincenzia "Longo" (your [Laurie Scarpace McKenzie] listing is "Long"). It's obviously a variation of the same name, but I may ask my genealogist to check out Vincenzia because my gr-grandmother was a Longo before marrying her husband, who was a Sansone. Her name was Providenza Salvatrice Bertha Longo (b. Sept 22, 1880 in Termini) and she married Giuseppe C. Sansone (b. May 31, 1872 in Termini). Although I've been working on the Sansone side of my family, I haven't done anything on the Longo's yet. Looking at the dates, I wonder if your Vincenzia could have been the sister of my Providenza's father? Vincenzia's children were born in the 1880's, which is when my gr-grandmother was born, so Vincenzia would probably be of the generation of Providenza's father.
Death: Gloria died of leukemia. Gloria was first diagnosed with leukemia last fall after her trip to Buffalo and Batavia. She had been in remission until shortly before her death.

Marriage: Because Providenza and Salvatore are first cousins, both of their last names are Caito.

12 Jan 1987: 80th Wedding Anniversary celebrated at a garden party in Northridge, CA after a Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. 100 guests were present. As of this date they were the oldest and longest married couple in California and the second oldest and longest married couple in the USA in that category. The anniversary celebration was carried by the Associated Press in reports that appeared in newspapers across the USA. Copies of the news articles are on file in this family tree documents section.
