Birth: In 1870 she was a resident of Wise Court House precinct; unmarried and the head of a household which included all of her brothers and sisters except her sister, Jane, who had married, and her brother, John. Melvina never married.

Marriage: "Oldest daughter, Malvina, did finally marry -- to 'Hop' Sowards in Pike Co., KY. She was living there (Pike Co.) in the 1880 census with her sister, Jane, and Thomas (Benton) Addington (my great grandparents). Malvina, at that time, was unmarried but had a young son. Don't know who his father was."
