Parents
David D SALYER1 {M} = Susannah (Arnett) MILES {F}
Married 6 April 1837, Floyd Co, KY2
David D SALYER:
Born 10 January 1817, Copper Creek, Nicklesville, Scott Co, VA
Died 5 January 1890, Fredville, Magoffin Co, KY
Buried Fredville, KY, Harper, Magoffin Co, KY at an Allen Cemetery3
Occupation: Industrious Farmer
Jennifer Irene Dredfulwater (greenbean74401@yahoo.com) in Muskogee, OK writes that her 4th gr/grandfather was David D. Salyer who married Susanna “Susa” Fletcher Arnett Miles. Their son, Isaiah “Zer” Salyer married Polly Ann Carpenter and their son Gus Salyer was born in 1892 in KY.
David D. Salyer b. 1817 d. 1880 was buried in the Allen Cemetery at Fredville here in Magoffin County. He was the son of William M. Salyer b. 1776 d. 1854 and his first wife, Nancy Raney. William M. m. 2nd to Dorcas Patton in 1843.
David D. married on 6 Apr 1837 Floyd Co. KY to Susanna Miles, a daughter of Elizabeth Miles. Some descendants claim she was an Arnett.
The David Salyer family is found in the 1850 Floyd Co. KY census and in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records of Magoffin County.
In 1880, Isaiah Salyer is given as head of household but his parents; David Salyer age 63 and Susan age 60 are listed in the household. Isaiah is age 22 and his wife Polly is age 20. They have children Cora Salyer age 5, Gholson Salyer age 2, and Catherine Salyer age 7 months.
There is no 1890 extant census for Magoffin County so if your grandfather Gus Salyer was born in 1892 in Kentucky he was probably born here in Magoffin. I don’t find Isaiah in the 1900 or later census records of Magoffin and birth records did not materialize until 1911.
William M. Salyer was a son of Isaiah Salyer, Sr. b. 1752 and d. 2 Dec 1818. His wife was Mary -?- b. in Russell Co. VA.
David Salyer has a number of descendants in the southeast portion of the county and is buried on a hill near where he lived. One of his descendants, Connie Wireman, has been searching for the burial site of his wife, Susannah (Arnett/Miles). Was she buried beside her husband or did she travel west with her son Isaiah’s family?
Burial: The cemetery is located in the David Quadrangle, about 200 ft. above Hade Allen Cemetery, 1/8 mi. north of the Fredville post office on Hwy. 7. This cemetery is also known as the Bailey Cemetery. Laurie McKenzie visited David's grave on Labor Day, 1998.

Elizabeth\Betty (Peggy) HOWARD:
Born January 1844, Floyd Co, KY
Died BET 1920 AND 1928, Fredville, Magoffin Co, KY
Birth: Part of Floyd Co. became Magoffin Co. in 1860.
Death: 1999 - No primary proof yet exists as to Elizabeth's parentage. Although Magoffin County Historical Society has said that Betty is the "dau of Sam," a requested Kentucky death certificate for Betty/Elizabeth Salyer returned a death certificate for an Elizabeth Salyer whose parents were Ben Howard and Susan Allen; a birth date of 15 Sept 1846 was given. The date of death given is 19 Oct 1922. The year 1922 is consistent with the information given by Connie Wireman to Laurie McKenzie. Although the death certificate states that Elizabeth Salyer was married, no husband's name is given. The sudden death of Elizabeth was attributed to "heart dropsey." I have listed Elizabeth's (Betty) deathdate as being between 1920 - when she was on the census - and 1928 when her husband, Nelson, died. Nelson was listed as a widower at the time of his death. NOTE: Barbara Greene, Ezra Parker, DAR (Royal Oak, MI) found proof of Elizabeth as daughter of Samuel Howard for my application to the DAR.

Hi Kim,
My name is Jennifer Irene Dreadfulwater (Dever), and I guess you are the one who created the Watt family data page. I wanted to mail you to tell you I am the great great granddaughter of Isaiah "Zer" Salyer and great great granddaughter of Polly Ann Carpenter (Salyer) I have noticed on your genealogy page that that's where the branch of that family ends....well I asked my grandfather and he said in 1901 my great great grandfather and great great grandmother moved from Salyersville KY, to Chickisha Indian Territory, (Oklahoma was not yet a state then) and then three years after that moved to Yell Co., Arkansas and that is where the majority of Isaiah and Polly's ancestors are today -- in Eastern Oklahoma. I guess why you have left off there is there is no information on any branches past that. If you would like I can help you fill in the missing blanks. Email me back if interested. greenbean74401@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Jennifer Dreadfulwater

If you will note that the death of Jerry Wayne Salyer in 1996 Ended the Salyer name on our Direct Line, also if you will notice on my mother and father, aunt and uncle, my mother married my aunts brother and my aunt married my moms brother so there was no inbreeding going on it was just in-laws marrying in-laws. So My brother Kevin William Dever and I are double blooded cousins with Shelia (Shelly) Donnell Salyer and Jerry Wayne Salyer. Shadarrell Salyer has a daughter I don't know her name we don't keep in close contact. Anita Gail Salyer and Ronnie Frazier's children have children of their own also but I don't keep in close contact with them either.
