428 Ft. DearbornOn July 24, 1998, Travis and Deena received a new addition to their family. Their new puppy Sierra was adopted from the Michigan Humane Society in Westland. At the time of her adoption, she was about 12 lbs. Sierra is a German Shepard-Chow mix. They love their new pup, but only wish she would refrain from attacking Travis' elbow when he lays on the couch! Travis now is consulting for ACI which is a small recruiting firm in Livonia.
12 Nov 2000: Unfortunately Sierra didn't work out. Deena and Trav have now adopted a new, older pup, a Rotweiler named Rolland. Margaret Caito Kennedy (b. 1920) believes that Francesco never married
10-14-1999: In a Family History of the Descendants of John B. and Margherita Caito it is noted that Josepina had two older brothers, both fishermen, who never married but lived together like monks.
06-25-1999: In notes from Thomas Kennedy (b. 1959): Gentry is a variation of the Enlish nickname Gentle, although sometimes used in an ironic fashion, generally described the "gentleman" from Old French and Middle English, gentil = well-born, noble, courteous. Variations are: Gentile, Jentle, Gent, Jent and Gentry.spouse: Caito, Giovanni Michele Ardizone (1840 - 1929)
In a note from Margaret Caito Kennedy (b. 1920) to her son, Tom Kennedy:
Hi Tom,
Aunt Jo would have loved that explanation of the name Gentile. It would have confirmed all that she believed. You could have had a great go around with her. She said when grandpa Caito (Thomas Salvatore Caito) came to this country, he did not come "cattle class" but had a cabin; and when great-grandpa Rocco came (Antonio Rocco), he came through New Orleans, and traveled up the Mississippi to Cincinnati where he had relatives and then on to Cleveland. Their son was the first Italian boy to be born in Cleveland, according to Aunt Jo. When Ed and I were researching at the Archives, the Rocco we thought was grandma Caito's father, I beleive was traveling first class. One additional thing, Aunt Jo always said that the Gentile's were from France.
Love,
Mom
In another note, she writes:
When you get to Josephine Gentile, only daughter of Peter Gentile and Marina Catalano, she has seven brothers, three of whom were: Francesco, Ignatius and Joseph. Joseph married Augustina, who would have been Grandpa's aunt. One of her girls married a Badali. I remember some of her children went to Sacred Heart Church and had a non-Italian name which I do not recall, but who were known to be nice people. My friend, Toni Russo, taught school at Sacred Heart and I used to play on a badminton team there with her. Augustina is the same one I spoke of who went to San Francisco after the earthquake, but did not stay there.
I think that Josephine Gentile's two brothers, Francisco and Ignatius, were bachelors who Aunt Jo used to talk about and who were very religious men. I am eager to get back to the list and find Anthony Rini in Cleveland who is looking for names similar.
Love,
Mom
10-14-1999: In a Family History of the descendants of John B. and Margherita Caito it is noted that Margherita's parents, Giovanni and Josepina Gentile, died in their 80's in Detroit. They had visited their daughter, Margherita, in Providence, Rhode Island several times. Margherita would frequently go to Detroit to visit her parents.
Margherita's mother, Josepina Gentile Caito, was the only daughter of a wealthy sea captain and had been brought up in privileged conditions. Josepina had two older brothers, both fishermen, who never married but lived together like monks. Josepina learned to embroider as a child and was pampered by her parents, who bought her fine jewelry and even hired a woman to comb her hair.
10-14-1999: Tom Kennedy's records list her birth year as 1854 while Family History of John B. and Margherita Caito list her birth year as 1858 and her year of death as 1945.
