1880 Census: lists age as 11 yrs. (1869) and birthplace as ENGLAND
1900 Census: lists age as 28 yrs with a birth of August, 1877Death Note
December 12, 1931: Obituary of her sister, Rose Mailer, lists Elizabeth Watkins as surviving her (and still single).
Death Certificate (on file) lists her birth date as August 6, 1876. If she was truly born in 1876 (or even 1877 as the 1900 Census states) it means that in the 1880 census, someone would have had to mistake her for being 11 years old when in fact she was only 3 or 4 years old - a highly unlikely mistake. The 1869 birth date is probably correct and she probably changed her age, as being unmarried at the turn of the century was not considered a worthy position to be in, so she tried to make herself younger.
Information for her death certificate was supplied by Ruth Haggerty (Grandniece) of 45 Sunnydale Drive, Town of Tonawanda, NY
Cause of death was lobar pneumonia with contributory conditions of arteriosclerotic heart disease and congestive heart failure. She died at E. J. Meyer Memorial Hospital.

Birth Note
Notes from Frank E. Gerace, Jr: The Census of 1841 from Monmouth Wales, Waybridge Lane, Watkins Building, show James as being 13 in 1841, giving him a year of birth of 1828. The US Census of 1880 show his age as 46 giving him a year of birth 1834. His death certificate, information provided by his son, George, show him born in 1840.
Notes from Paul J. Caito (b. 1953): Since people tend to get less accurate on year of birth as one gets further and further from the birth year, and since people are often in a state of stress when giving information for death certificates, it is probably more likely that the birth year from the 1841 census was more accurate. If the 1900 Census or 1905 death certificate were more accurate it would mean that in the 1841 census, James would have been one (1) or two (2) years old, depending on whether you believed 1840 or 1839. If 1828 was the correct year, he would have been 13 during the 1841 census. I think it would have been difficult for someone to have mistaken his age during the 1841 census and mixed up a two year old with a 13 year old. As a result, I would tend to go with 1828.

The marriage bond and license are dated 1 Nov 1821 and state that Thomas Wadkins gave his oral consent for the marriage. John Salyer was not a resident of Floyd County at this time. William Salyer, Sr. and his sons were living in the newly formed county of Perry. Either the clerk who issued the marriage license did not know that John Salyer was under age or John added a few years to his age. There is also the possibility that a permission from John's father was exhibited to the clerk and is no longer extant. All of the permissions included with the marriage bonds are written on small scraps of paper and could easily be lost.

1880 Census: list age as 14 yrs. giving him a birth year of July 1865 (Census day was June 1, 1880) 1900 Census: lists age as 33 yrs. with a birth of July 1866. (Census day was June 1, 1900).
The 1900 Census was probably the more accurate as HE was probably the one filling it out. The 1880 census was filled out by his parents who could easily have made a one year error in his birth year. It's probably less likely that whoever Ruth Muller is, would have known his birth year better that William would have when he was about 33 years old.Death Note

Hi Dena, [DKur8029@aol.com]
I don't know who the parents of Frank Watson were, but according to "Head Of Lickin' And There Abouts" by C E Shepard, "....Fank Watson and Sarah Catherine Allen were married in Magoffin Co 28 May 1869 at the home of John Allen. JM Adams officiated. The witnesses were Wiley Howard and Wesley Whitaker. Frank Watson was born in KY in 1847. Katie Allen was born in April 1847 in Floyd Co, the daughter of John Allen and Celia Slusher." I hope this is helpful.

Joyce had two children, Kim and Sheree. After several miscarriages, the doctor told her that if she wanted her pregnancy to be full term she would have to stay in bed for the duration. This she did - twice. She was always concerned with the welfare of her children, so much in fact, that when she and Jim divorced, Joyce believed, rightly or not, that the best place for Kim and Sheree was with their father.

Death Note
This information is based on a letter written by Bertha to her sister, Grace - 2 Nov 1935. On February 25, 1998, Laurie McKenzie purchased the certified copy of a death certificate which shows a Frank Weiss of 1007 West Brown St died Dec. 13, 1935. Perhaps this certificate is not for the Frank Weiss who was married to Bertha. His date of birth is shown as Sep 19, 1880 in Austria. The informant is only listed as Mrs. Frank Weiss. It is not known at this time if Frank and Bertha, in fact, lived in Iron Mountain. The death certificate lists Frank's kind of work as "laborer." More work needs to be done.
Marriage Note
After divorcing Tony POYE, Bertha married Frank WEISS, her third husband. Patricia POYE Irvin remembers him as "Grandpa Frank." The marriage date was originally based on pictures of Frank at Bertha's daughter Orval's, grave. Orval passed away in 1926. Bertha and her husband, Frank, reportedly lived in the flat above her second husband, Anton (Tony) on Brandon Street. After 3 trips to the Detroit City-County Building, and many hours of pouring over the original books of marriages in Wayne County, on 29 Sep 1997 Laurie McKenzie found the marriage license of Frank WEISS and Bertha POJE, so one more mystery is solved! There are numerous mis- or alternate spellings on the license. (Book 54, Page 323) For example, Bertha's father is listed as Sebastien SANDERS, her mother's maiden name was listed as Janette ALLEN. The license also states that Bertha and Frank had each been married only one time. Their ages were listed as 39; Bertha was actually 42.
