Sally is thought to be a child of William & Caty (GEARHEART) ALLEN. Circumstantial evidence only. (Question: why would William & Caty have two daughters named or nicknamed "Sally?")
"We find that the Allens came from Connecticut to Virginia, and after the Revolution many went to North Carolina and from there to Kentucky and Tennessee. George Allen and two other Allens, it has been told, came to Kentucky about 1793, and it was believed these three were brothers." p. 8.spouse: Prater, Sarah (~1760 - <1840)
DAR states: "John Allen was born 1750 and was a second cousin of Ethan Allen, and married Janet (Jane) Colman, a daughter of Samuel and Sara Lyons Colman of Virginia. John and Samuel were both Revolutionary War soldiers." According to this version John had three sons: George, William (Bill), and an unknown (Abraham ?) p. 8.
"Bill Allen (b. ca. 1770 or 1775) married a Martin or a Gayheart. He came to Kentucky with George Allen and another whose name is lost (Abraham ?) about 1793. Bill went to the Licking River and raised his family in Magoffin County." HISTORY AND GENEALOGY RECORD OF THE ALLENS-BEGLEYS-MAYS OF KENTUCKY by Jackson Allen Begley. p. 60.Event Rev War - [date: 11 SEP 1780]
Samuel ALLEN enlisted in the Revolutionary forces, Sept 11, 1780, with Archibald PRATER. Sarah PRATER was a sister of Archibald. Samuel ALLEN signed an oath of allegiance to the United States in Henry Co., VA. on the third Monday of January, 1777. A Samuel ALLEN was taken prisoner during the Rev. War by the British 19 Oct 1781. Samuel may have been the brother of John ALLEN. During the period of 1782-87 the name of Samuel ALLEN was on the tax lists of Henry Co. VA. In 1795 Samuel ALLEN was one of the signers of a petition asking that Tazewell County be formed from part of Russell County. In the 1810 census of Floyd County, KY. was a Sarah ALLEN, probably the widow of Samuel ALLEN. (What is the source of this information?)Death Note
The family of Archibald Prater was enumerated in the 1810 Census of Floyd Co. Also present in the county was Sarah ALLEN,the widow of Samuel Allen. William Allen, born ca 1783 in Patrick Co., Va, son of Sarah and Samuel Allen, died in Breathitt Co. in 1854.

In the Henry Co. marriage records is the marriage of Sarah Prater to Samuel Allen - Sept. 17, 1783. THE ALLEN FAMILY of EASTERN KENTUCKY: "Sarah lived in Floyd County, KY in 1820 and 1830. It is not presently known how many children were born to this family. One child has been definitely established through the BREATHITT CO. KENTUCKY VITAL STATISTICS. Entry reads: William ALLEN age 71, d. Feb. 8, 1854, married; farmer; parents: Samuel and Sarah ALLEN; birthplace: Patrick Co., VA; found dead in woods." In Henry Co. marriage records is the marriage of Sarah PRATER to Simon [actually Samuel] ALLEN 17 Sept 1783.
----------child: Allen, Thomas G (*1830 - )Marriage Note
One Samuel Allen, Jr. was the son of Samuel Allen and Sarah Prater. Differing viewpoints have been offered as to which Samuel belongs to this couple. "We are of the opinion that Samuel and Sarah Prater Allen's son Samuel married Polly Lawhorn in 1816 in Floyd Co., KY."(THE ALLEN FAMILY OF EASTERN KENTUCKY) The other possibility is that Samuel Allen, Jr. first married Janie Patton on 28 Dec 1815 in Floyd Co., KY. Note that his sister Elizabeth married Samuel Patton, Jr.

According to KENTUCKY VITAL STATISTICS by Annie Walker Burns Bell: "William came to Kentucky about the year 1793 and settled somewhere on the Licking River in the present Magoffin County. William is the ancestor of the Magoffin County Allens." p. 91. BREATHITT CO., KY VITAL STATISTICS: "William Allen-age 71, d. Feb. 8, 1854; married; farmer; parents-Samuel and Sarah Allen. Birthplace: Patrick Co., VA; found dead in the woods." From the Breathitt Co., KY Vital Statistics listing we know that William Allen was found dead in the woods in 1854 and that he was born in Patrick Co., VA. In 1776, Patrick Co., VA was cut out of Pittsylvania County and was named for Patrick Henry. When first formed, Henry County embraced the whole of what is now Patrick County (the county given where Samuel Allen and Sarah Prater were married) and the greater portion of present Franklin Co., VA. Virginia County information from Virginia "Jo" Stephens, Hazard, KY. From traditional stories handed down in the family, we learn from Clyde P. Allen of Martin, KY that William Allen was found dead in the woods after leaving the home of his brother George Allen who lived in Floyd Co. It was told that animals had partly eaten his body by the time he was found. It is not known exactly when he died but the entry in the Vital Statistics is 8 Feb 1854. Clyde Allen says the story is that there was some kind of a party or gathering that lasted for days at the home of George Allen, and William grew tired and left for his home in Breathitt Co., KY. It is not known where he is buried. Clyde Allen believes that he was buried in the cemetery where George Allen and Cynthia Patton Allen were buried, known as the Mandy Turner Cemetery on Brush Creek of Floyd Co., KY. It is also possible that he was buried on the spot where his body was found or was removed to his home place in Breathitt County, Kentucky.

Hey there all,
We intend to make it to Founders Day (Sat & maybe Sun.).
I've been working on the ALSEPT line, descended from Robert Alsept and Jane Jensey Risner. Jack Alsept is son of Lillie Alsept d/o McClellan Alsept & Rosa Arnett , s/o Smith Alsept &Helen Dykes. Smith Alsept s/o Robert Alsept & Jensey Risner. Robert s/o Henry "Hen" Patrick & Elizabeth "Betsy" Howard-Alsop.
I'm new to all this, but do the best I can. I've just started on the ARNETT line. I don't mind sharing what I have or find. I'm real glad to see Magoffin getting this list going! It's sure to get active with all the kin looking for kin in this area.
Hi Carolyn, I've E'd with you on the Alsept's and through Leonieta "Leo" concerning Durham. I will get to you on Arnett's. My main computer has just been repaired, but not connected back up as yet. I rode it so hard it blew it's brains out (that bad)! LOL.
* I'm Jack Alsept's wife, & we're in our midlife years.*

Hi Carolyn,
Like all books, they aren't perfect, but great outlines. Rosa May Arnett b.May 29,1899 was the child of Elbert Arnett & Nelius.
Kendall Arnett and Elizabeth "Betty" Fletcher were her Grandparents (source; fam & Bible record). Relatives I've talked to said Nelius was "quietly" reported as an Arnett. That was then and this is now, so anything goes. Another thing, Rosa herself told me and everyone that she, Rosa, was 12 yrs. old when her mother died. She also was supposedly married to McClellan Alsept when she was 14 (Bible record lists marriage: Jan. 21, 1916 Magoffin Co., KY. Things just aren't matching too well here, though it was common to lie about your age to get what ya wanted. Got any kind of records or answers for me ??
I have the Arnett & Risner Books and rate them high, even with their mistakes & left outs. All of them have that. I do wish they opened flat though. The Risner books totally left out poor ol Willie's family (Clell Alsept's bro.). Bad enough Amber & her family never had a pix of him till I found one of the brothers together in one, and now possibly a second I found !
Are you going to Founder's day this week end?
Sorry y'all this is so long,
Frankie jalsept@kih.net

Kendall found out in October 1999 that he had this daughter. She is married and has 3 daughters - all supposedly graduated at the top of their classes from college. Two of the girls are teachers, one is a nurse. Kendall's daughter is a school counselor. She showed up on his doorstep one day and introduced herself. Apparently Kendall and Mossie had been "keeping company" when he went in the service. Mossie never told him about her pregnancy even though she named him as father on the daughter's birth certificate.
Louisa Blanton is currently caring for Kendall in his home.(LMcK-1999) Kendall died before Laurie could visit him again.
