Aug 1998: Sarah's name was obtained from the death certificate of her son, Augustino Caito, who died in Batavia, NY on September 26, 1934. Her name is listed as Corsso, but I feel this is misspelled as we know there are individuals with the name "Corso" but I've not heard of "Corsso." The death certificate also misspells Termini. 6 Dec 1998: Phone conversation with Ann Marie Mascari Jones of Johnson City, NY: Ann Marie remembers hearing that her great-grandmother Sarah Caito travelled to Batavia with her son and daughter-in-law and stayed for six (6) months. She didn't like living in the United States and eventually returned to Termini Imerese. She made this trip somewhere around 1906-1908, so we know that she was still living at that time and the date of death would obviously be sometime after that (after 1906 to 1908). "Big" Charles Culbertson was a Church clerk and a constable in Scott County, VA. Nancy and Comfort Osborne were sisters. Their husbands were brothers. Nancy was from Floyd County, KY. The 1850 census has her father living in Morgan County. This area is now Menifee County. After her husband John died, Comfort returned to this area. Charles owned land from Amous branch, to Valley Creek, on State Route 680, in Scott County, VA.
One source has Nancy born in Scott County. I would think that she was from Floyd County, KY, but have been unable to locate any information on the Osborne or Culbertson families in the Floyd Co. records. This is because the areas that are now Wolfe, Menifee and Morgan Counties were once Floyd County. Charles was listed living in Scott County during the 1830 census and was between30-40 years old, with wife, 3 males and 1 female children. He was also in the1840 Scott County VA census living with his wife, 3 male children and 1 female child. During the 1850 Scott County VA census Charles is listed living in household #1468 and works as a farmer. All children but Charles and son John were living at home. During the 1860 Scott County census he was living in household #675. Property valued at $4,500 and personal property at $600. His wife and children Stephen, David, Rachel, Mary, Nancy and two grandchildren, Nancy and John are living with him. During the 1870 Scott County VA census Charles is living in the Cornville prescient in household #147. Wife Nancy and grandson John J. with him. His occupation is listed as farmer and his property was valued at $2000.00. The exact location were Charles is buried is unknown but I suspect he was buried on his farm on SR 680, his children and grandchildren are buried there.

CHILD 2 - Charles W. CULBERTSON-2510
Charles moved from Scott Co. VA to Morgan Co. KY. This is now Menifee County. This was in the mid 1840's, several of his brothers and one of his uncles, John Culbertson also lived in Kentucky during this period. The descendants of John Culbertson lived in Menifee County until the 1900 census then moved away.
I was told by my Grandfather that Charles broke his neck when he fell from a chair his wife kicked from under him. He was buried in the woods on his farm, later known as the Murphy Farm. In 1988 Kenny and Kendel Culbertson located the grave and in 1997 with the help of their wives, they placed a chain link fence around the grave. Charles and Delilia were married in Morgan Co. KY. A copy of their marriage license was found in book 1, page 83. Delila was from Morgan County. After Charles death, Delila married Lewis Murphy and issued several children. After Lewis death Delila married Solomn Long. Charles was listed as Charley W. Culbertson on marriage license, in Morgan County.

John and Lucinda were married in Morgan County, KY in 1849. During the 1850 Scott County, VA census John and Lucinda are living in household #1518 with son Charles. There is a Stephen age 15 living with him also. In the 1860 Morgan County, KY census household #587 lists John from VA and wife Lucinda. She maybe the daughter of James Gose. Records in Morgan County, show daughter Nancy born on Blackwater and son Stephen born on Glady. Both areas are near Flat Rock where John's brother Charles W. lived until his death in 1850. O.C. Helton papers has John born 1829. Other notes have John born NC and died Floyd County, KY?? This would have been present day Morgan, Wolfe or Menifee County. They moved from KY back to Scott County, VA after 1865 and before 1869. In the 1870 Scott County, VA census John and Lucinda age listed at 45 years. Children William, Nancy, Stephen, James, John and Martha living with them in the Cornwill prescient in household #150. John occupation was listed as farm laborer. Not listed in the 1880 Scott County census. Lucinda may be a sister of William Gose. They were living next door to each other during the 1860 Morgan Co., KY census. John may have moved to Wise Co., VA. Check 1880census.

During the 1860 Scott County VA, census, William was listed living in household #674. He was listed at age 30, and his occupation was listed as a farmer. Wife Jane and children Emily and Charles living with him. During the 1880 Scott County census his occupation was listed as farmer. He was living in the Cornwill district in household #146. Wife Sarah, children: Emily, Charles, Mary, William, George, and Thomas living with him. Also a George Meade. Williams occupation was Farming, his property was valued at $500.00 and his personal property at $500.00. In the 1800 Scott County, VA census, William, wife Sarah and children: Mary, William, George, Thomas, Nancy,
Jeptha, Sarah, and mother Nancy are listed. Father was not mentioned, probably dead. Williams occupation is listed as farmer.
